Wonderful Whitby Lifeboat Weekend

This weekend saw the return of the Whitby Lifeboat Weekend - a wonderful fixture in Whitby's array of summer events. Spread over both Saturday and Sunday the Lifeboat Weekend provides an opportunity for the dedicated and experienced Whitby RNLI to do some much needed fund raising whilst at the same time providing some excellent entertainment which both locals and visitors alike really enjoy!

There was plenty of zipping to and fro in Whitby harbour, with 3 smaller in-shore lifeboats on display. With classic cars lining the West Pier and attractions around the Bandstand at the end of Pier Road, there was plenty to see and do for all the family, not least the excellent Lifeboat display on Sunday afternoon.

Unfortunately the big yellow rescue helicopter had been called out on a proper job, so was unable to attend, but the Lifeboats did a great job of keeping the crowds entertained.  The sun even came out just in time to prevent the heavy rain which fell throughout Sunday morning putting a dampener on things!

St Mary's church on Whitby's East Cliff looked as majestic as ever against the blue sky!

One of the classic cars making a departure from the pier:

A lifeboat station has been operating in Whitby here since 1802 and from 2007 the volunteer crew have benefited from a brand-new building.

Whitby Lifeboat Station is situated on the east side of the harbour, accessed from Church Street. The station houses their D Class inshore lifeboat OEM Stone III, crew training rooms a galley and offices whilst the Trent Class All weather lifeboat George and Mary Webb lies afloat outside.

During the Lifeboat Weekend the big lifeboat was moored at The Bandstand, with visitors being allowed to climb aboard and have a look around the boat - whilst being entertained by a quartet of singers!

Being situated only a few miles from Whitby, Aislaby Lodge is perfectly situated for those who enjoy both countryside and seaside experiences. It's fantastic to be able to call down into town and take part in some of our wondeful coastal events such as the Lifeboat Weekend, Whitby Regatta which is now only a few weeks away, and other town-based events such as Whitb Folk Week.

At the same time, the Esk Valley is on our doorstep, with it's undulating moorland and valleys, the wonderful steam railway which is visible from our garden and the picturesque villages which line the Esk itself.

Whitby truly is a wonderful place to live, work and play!
