If you are planning a group holiday or family celebration, here are some of our top suggestions for things to do as a group locally:

Go Ape in Dalby Forest

Ok, so you're not a monkey, or a gorilla for that matter - but how do you fancy taking on the UK's number one tree-top adventure?

A day out with Go Ape is all about living life a little more adventurously. It's about having great fun with family and friends and 'getting in touch with your inner Tarzan'!

The classic Go Ape experience lasts between 2 and 3 hours - it's their Tree Top Adventure.

Starting with a safety briefing and training in using the ropes, harnesses and clips you'll then be let loose on their wonderful course of zip-wires, rope ladders, cargo nets and tree-top walkways, all a considerable distance from the ground!

And of course, taking on Go Ape's wonderful walkways means you'll get to experience the beautiful scenery you're surrounded by from a perspective few humans ever get to see.

If being suspended from a tree isn't your thing, there's always the Visitor Centre to explore, with wonderful cafe, an excellent children's play area and wonderful walks including the Bridestones route featuring some amazing rock formations.

Trailways Bike Hire

Fancy getting some exercise and enjoying some coastal scenery? Why not hire some bikes from Trailways in Hawkser (between Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay) then head down the Cinder Track to Bay and enjoy a meal, a drink and a stroll on the beach - what could be better!

The Beach

Looking for a cost-effective way to spend some time? Visit Whitby's expansive sandy beach and you'll soon find yourselves enjoying an impromtu game of beach cricket, a sand castle competition or even a ride on a donkey! And for the really brave, why not take a quick dip in the North Sea - or enjoy a surfing lesson on a warm summer's day?
