Le Tour de Yorkshire - What an Amazing Event!
So - that was that! Le Tour de Yorkshire came and went - in a flash - blink and you'd have missed it!
And wasn't it an amazing event? So much anticipation and nervous excitement. So many people - so much bunting!
With locals and visitors lining the streets and country lanes for miles around, the atmosphere could've been cut with a knife.
Despite having a long wait (for those who secured their street-side position early in the day) the crowds were kept entertained by the hoards of police escort bikes - who knew Yorkshire could muster such a police presence!
When at last the riders arrived, they did not disappoint. For those of us who'd not seen a professional cycle race in the flesh before the speed was the most impressive feature! I mean, you know they're quick - they're keeping up higher speeds than most of us do in cars (in this area anyway!) - and there's not a drop of combustable fuel in sight.
Having seen most of the riders come through Whitby from a good vantage point near Pannett Park, I walked down into town and caught glimpse, on the big screen, of the first riders reaching the top of Sledgates, having mastered Green Lane, Whitby Road and Robin Hood's Bay in between.
Upon reaching home I was even able to enjoy some of the footage on the TV - and didn't the camera men do a great job of making our part of North Yorkshire look absolutely amazing! Of course, it looks amazing all the time - but particularly good from a helicopter!
The organisers did a great job - really showing the world what Yorkshire's made of. We've got it all. Beautiful coastal scenery, rolling countryside, pretty market towns, ancient history, modern industry - it's all here.
And Aislaby Lodge Cottages is perfectly situated to benefit from it all.
Whether you're looking for a relaxing or romantic break by the sea, an adventurous trip for the family, or you're coming for some culture, history and the arts - Yorkshire will not disappoint!
This summer there's so much going on - with wonderful attractions both within the easy reach of Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors, as well as slightly further afield in York, Harrogate and the Dales.
Don't forget - we can accommodate group bookings so make the perfect base for larger family holidays or even stag and hen do's, if that's your thing!
Of course, we'd love to rattle on about how great Yorkshire is (and particularly our patch of Whitby and the Esk Valley) - but you probably already know how good it is, so don't forget to call us on 01947 811822 and book your break, before the whole world finds out and we run out of availability entirely!
