Come and Blow the Cobwebs Away in Whitby

The sun is out and the sky is blue! The spring flowers are just starting to poke their heads out from below ground and it feels like spring is (nearly) in the air!

We are, however, forcast some patchy snow showers over the weekend - a reminder that we're not yet out of the 'danger zone' - but I don't think any of us can avoid looking forward to the warmer months by this time in February.

Whitby always attracts a crowd when the weather is good - even in these colder months. It's nice to see so many visitors in the town already, even through the week, and with February half term next week I'm sure there's going to be a real buzz in the town, and surrounding countryside from now on.

So what's new in Whitby?

One of Whitby's great attractions is that it seems to stand still - steadfast against some of the less attractive consequences of the rapid change seen elsewhere in the country, and the world.

To that end, you'll still be hard pushed to find a town in the UK with such a variety of small local businesses lining its high streets. And and obvious lack of big name brands and chains.

There are a few additions we'd like to highlight though for this year, including:

  • Hadleys - yes, they've been here for ever, but they've just opened a take away (within their Restaurant building on Bridge Street) - definitely worth checking out next time you're peckish!
  • Abbey Wharf - this is what used to be 'The Shambles' - it's now a smart restaurant and bar which opened at the start of the summer last year, so if you've not been to Whitby in the past 12 months you may have missed it, worth a look!
  • The Fuzzy Dog Bakery - a bakery, for dogs! We know many of our guests love bringing their pets to Whitby, and now they can enjoy some holiday treats too!

And the old favourites?

Ok, so some of these aren't so old, but they've become firm favourites for many visitors to Whitby:

  • The Whitby Deli - great food, great coffee, great alcohol selection and just a great atmosphere!
  • Whitby Tours - Rose is fantastically knowledgable about all things 'Whitby' - book her for a tour, you won't be disappointed!
  • Skinner Street - home to Beckett's, Bobbins, Botham's, Musicport, Dr Crank's, Cranberry Swamp and more
  • Church Street - the ancient cobbles leading to the 199 Steps and full to bursting with more of Whitby's independent shops

A Personal Invitation

So come and enjoy some time in Whitby this year. We extend a personal invitation - whether you come for a break by the sea, shopping, walking, local history, culture or just to escape the noise of everyday life, Whitby really does have something for everyone.

We look forward to welcoming you!
