Visit Whitby During 2017 and Experience Some of Yorkshire Best Events

Happy new year! We're looking forward to 2017 - there's plenty to do in the Whitby area all year round, and below we've outlined a few events you may wish to take in whilst visiting the Whitby area this year.

Of course, if you're looking for peace and quiet you've come to the right place. Aislaby Lodge Cottages are situated in the picturesque Esk Valley, overlooking the route of the North York Moors Steam Railway and the River Esk itself. We have direct access to some of the areas best footpaths and trails - you won't have to go far to find your own quiet corner.

But if you're planning on coming to Whitby or the Esk Valley this year and want to know when might be a good time to come (or when to avoid!) here's a quick rundown of some of the standout events of the next few months:

Jack And The Bean Stalk

Whitby's Apollo Players are staging a wonderful production of Jack and the Beanstalk. If you're looking for some family-friendly entertainment and are visiting Whitby between 16th and 21st January you can't go too far wrong with a traditional pantomime!

Tickets can be purchased via Whitby Pavilion, where the show is being staged, by calling 01947 458899 or visiting their website. As the Players themselves say:

"Packed full of side-spiltting jokes, bags of audience participation, colourful characters, songs and lots of surprises this new version of an old classic is sure to be a hit with old and young alike! Dazzling costumes and soarkling sets are topped off with the usual Apollo Players magic.....a fantastic way to start 2017!"

Tour de Yorkshire 2017

This is probably the event we're most excited about! Back for the 3rd year, the Tour de Yorkshire really is a wonderful spectacle. And it seems the Esk Valley, Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay section simply cannot be beaten as it's featured in the Tour's first stage on Friday 28th April 2017. Here's a preview of Stage 1:

The Tour de Yorkshire makes a great day out for the whole family - provided the weather holds! Take a picnic, get to your chosen spot early, and make sure you have you're ready to cheer on the riders, it'll be a great weekend!

Whitby Folk Week - Saturday 19th August - 25th August 2017

Whitby Folk Week has long been a popular events - providing a week-long folk music and dance extravaganza right here on the Yorkshire Coast. It's back in 2017 and will no doubt feature a wonderfully mixed but consistently high-quality line-up as always.

Apparently they've got an app now - providing information about artists, venues and performances throughout the festival week, and they've already got a list of dance artists booked, with more information due to be published on the website shortly:

"Some of the dance artists we've booked already for 2017 include The Falconers, Ivan Aitken, Dampiers Round, Dave Turner, Knotted Chord, John Meechan, Rob Sibthorpe, Lynne Render and Martyn Harvey. Song artists will be appearing on the website very shortly."

Whitby Regatta - Saturday 19th - Sunday 21st August 2017

Coinciding with the beginning of Folk Week, Whitby Regatta will also return in 2017 - meaning Whitby will be incredibly busy this weekend and probably worth avoiding if crowds aren't your thing! That's not to say you should come and stay with us then - just head into the peace and quiet of the countryside instead of the busyness of town!

With the fairground on the pier, the traditional and highly competetive boat races, events for the whole family on the beach, stalls, entertainment and much more, Whitby Regatta is a great event and not to be missed, if that's your thing!

We'll keep you posted with more event information, news, updates and ideas for things to do and places to go over the next few months. In the meantime, we wish you a very happy new year and look forward to welcoming guests old and new throughout 2017.
