Whitby Abbey Goes Green for Goth Weekend
This weekend saw the return of another fixture in Whitby's calendar - the autumn Goth Weekend.
Now attended by hundreds of like-minded visitors from around the world, what was originally started as a small gathering of a group of friends has grown into something far larger.
Even Whitby Abbey now gets actively involved, being lit up green and pink for the weekend - creating a dramatically colourful scene on Whitby's East Cliff:
The Abbey is usually lit by standard flood lights, but for a couple of days each October it's standard lighting is replaced with green and pink gels as well as some projected shapes and patterns.

Not Just Goths
Of course, Whitby's always open for business - and the Goth Weekend usually runs around the time of the October Half Term, meaning there are plenty of 'plain-clothes' visitors in town at the same time. I saw this image on Twitter and thought it summed up the weekend pretty well:

Bursting at the Seams
With so many additional visitors over Goth Weekend, Whitby certainly feels 'full' - it's certainly a great weekend for our local businesses and attractions. But if the bustling crowds don't appeal to you - or at least not for the full weekend, why not book some accommodation out of town for next year?
Aislaby Lodge Cottages in situated just 3 miles from town, so you can enjoy all that Whitby has to offer, whilst being far enough removed to enjoy the peace and tranquility of our rural location.
We can accommodate groups of all sizes - so why not come with some friends and really make the most of the weekend?
